In 1964 Jason Boe was elected to the Oregon House of Representatives. He was minority whip in 1967, and minority leader in 1969. From 1973 to 1981 he served as a Douglas County State Senator. He was elected to an unprecedented four consecutive terms as Senate President in 1973, 1975, 1977, and 1979, in addition to being the president of the National Committee on State Legislatures for 1977.
